CONCEPT GREEN: What makes Harris Tweed sustainable

In the focus of the autumn winter collections of our sustainable brand CONCEPT GREEN stands one fabric in particular: Harris Tweed. But what exactly makes this fabric so sustainable? We would like to explain that to you today.

Harris Tweed is not just a fabric

Harris Tweed is first and foremost a fabric - but there is so much more behind it. For centuries, the fabric has been hand-woven in the traditional way on the outer hybrids. This is still the case today, so Harris Tweed creates sustainable jobs and keeps a cultural heritage alive. Local production also ensures that the community is strengthened and the ecological footprint is reduced. Long transport routes can be avoided.

Avoiding waste through manual work

Because Harris Tweed is woven and processed by hand, mass production of the fabric is not possible. This ensures that overproduction is reduced, thereby avoiding waste on the part of the industry. Every metre of fabric is made with care and appreciation.

A fabric for the environment

It is not only tradition that contributes to the sustainability of Harris Tweed, but also the material. The fabric is woven from 100% British virgin wool, a biodegradable, renewable raw material. It is sourced directly from Great Britain. Wool is also particularly robust and hard-wearing - you are often buying a garment for life. All this reduces the environmental impact.

Certification and sustainability standards

Environmentally relevant certifications and standards also play an important role. For example, the fabric is dyed with dyes that are subject to strict standards. Each colour is on the approved list of ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) and also comply with British and European regulations as well as REACH. This is a European chemical regulation that ensures a high level of protection for human health and the environment. It is also important to note that Harris Tweed does not bleach wool and uses the fibres in their natural state to produce light shades. In the end, Harris Tweed fabric is also certified according to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX zertifiziert.

Harris Tweed & CONCEPT GREEN - A perfect match!
